New Jersey marks up EV ownership with additional $1,000 fee

New Jersey is introducing an additional registration fee for EVs. Governor Phil Murphy signed a law last week renewing New Jersey’s transportation trust fund that adds an annual fee set at $250 this year, and rising $10 over the remaining four years covered by the legislation, bringing it to $290.

On the plus side, the federal Inflation Reduction Act includes a tax credit of 30% of a commercial electric vehicle’s purchase price up to $40,000, and a few states offer incentives as well. However, that is likely to change.
