In the US, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) defines NEVs as low-speed vehicles (LSVs) that are limited to 25 mph (40 km/h) and to roads with a speed limit of 35 mph. Top speed is 45 km/h (28 mph). The US currently offers federal tax incentives of 10% of the purchase price up to $2,500.
