Cumulative global sales of all Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC)-produced hybrid vehicles—i.e., The LS 600h extended the range further in 2007, marking another first in being the first production car to use a full hybrid powertrain with a V8 engine. Hybrid sales already account for 23% of Toyota Motor Europe’s (TME’s) total sales year-to-date. In August, Toyota Motor Corporation announced that Toyota and Lexus combined had sold more than eight million hybrid cars worldwide since the launch of the Toyota Prius in 1997. Two-thirds of the hybrid sales in Europe are made in Europe.

The luxury Lexus LS 600h L hybrid is the worst offender. It comes with more than $17,000 in forced features compared with the conventional, base model Lexus LS 460L. Ford, General Motors, Honda and Toyota all sell models with high hybrid value ratings, UCS noted. It comes with $1,600 worth of forced features.

Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) has cumulatively sold more than 2 million hybrid vehicles since the launch in 1997 in Japan of the Coaster Hybrid EV in August and the Prius in December. Lexus remains the only premium brand in Europe to offer three full hybrids as part of its range: the GS 450h, the LS 600h and the newly-launched RX 450h.
