Icom North America, a developer and manufacturer of liquid-injection propane (autogas) systems for commercial and consumer vehicles, has received 17 new US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certifications for its patented JTG II Propane Liquid Injection bi-fuel systems. The GMC-brand vehicles include Sierra, Yukon and Savana vans.

Overall light-duty vehicle sales were essentially flat for the month, according to figures from Autodata, with 746,928 units sold in November 2009, compared to 746,789 units in November 2008. new vehicle market share, up from 2.2% new vehicle market share, up from 2.2% new light-duty vehicle market share.

The agency spent more than four years investigating corrosion-related brake failures in the vehicles and similar trucks and SUVs made by other manufacturers, but has not identified a defect that would initiate a recall order. While NHTSA can’t order a recall in this case, there is a safety issue that vehicle owners should address.

US sales of hybrids in March 2009 as reported by the automakers dropped 44% by volume year-on-year to 21,433 units; that performance was worse than the total light duty vehicle market, which posted a 36.8% new vehicle market share for hybrids in March—down from 2.82% in March 2008, but the highest mark so far in 2009.
