The battery pack in Bright’s car, conceivably, could be made 40 percent smaller than the batteries in similar plug-ins, according to CEO John Waters. Waters worked on the battery for the General Motors EV1 and also worked at Ener1, which makes lithium-ion batteries. Waters wouldn’t provide a lot of details on the vehicle.

The next step will be the ability to communicate with individual cars—that could address the 3 cars on the same neighborhood circuit issue.

Nobody was recharging any cell phones or laptops during the 1976 bicentennial year. (I I learned all bout this in Joe Romm’s great book, “Hell and High Water&# (c) 2007). That’s a phenomenal accomplishment considering how much our electronic footprint grew in that time period.

The pure electric vehicles, for reserve, must carry heavy and expensive batteries—which add expense as well as weight—and must have access to high-powered recharging stations [ 1 ]. Furthermore, even the older version PHEV can recharge at a slow rate using local solar, wind, water-derived or other net zero CO 2 fuel.
