The battery pack in Bright’s car, conceivably, could be made 40 percent smaller than the batteries in similar plug-ins, according to CEO John Waters. Waters worked on the battery for the General Motors EV1 and also worked at Ener1, which makes lithium-ion batteries. Waters wouldn’t provide a lot of details on the vehicle.

It will have the ability to directly recharge other electric vehicles, send power back into the grid, and act as a backup power source for a home. Company CEO and founder Henrik Fisker has had a hand in designing the BMW Z8, the Aston Martin DB9 and the V8 Vantage, and the Fisker Karma. The Fisker Ocean is also a power source.

The four-door sedan will deliver 40 miles on a charge; a small gasoline engine will recharge the battery as it approaches depletion, extending its range by as much as 200 miles. GM will leapfrog Toyota and Honda by providing an electric car to the masses by the end of next year. The car is expected to cost around $40,000.
