European Biodiesel Production Up 16.6% in 2009

In 2009, biodiesel production decreased in a number of EU Member States, including Germany, Greece and the UK, but expanded in other countries such as Austria, Belgium, Finland, Italy, Netherlands, Poland and Spain, which last year took the place of Italy as the third largest EU biodiesel producer, behind Germany and France.

Fats and greases and inedible oils are opportunity feedstocks, but the US supply of fats and greases is probably on the order of less than 10 million barrels, closer to 1-2 million barrels on an annual basis. That plant, in Norco, Louisiana, will have the capacity to produce more than 9,300 barrels per day of renewable diesel product.
