The PHEV is fitted with a 9.8 kWh lithium polymer battery pack—roughly five times larger than the Sonata Hybrid’s battery—and is expected to travel up to 22 miles (35 km) on electric power alone. Sonata PHEV is expected to deliver 93 MPGe combined in EV mode based on internal estimates.

In 386 miles driving through Southern California, aided by the start/stop (where the engine shuts off when not needed), we averaged 23.7 Where we did much better was on a 102-mile freeway run in either Eco or Smart mode and with the adaptive cruise control set at 65 mph, we achieved 27.5 New Vehicle – Five years/60,000 miles.
