In March, BYD chief executive officer Wang Chuanfu announced that in the first half of 2010 the company will sell only 100 e6 cars, to a taxi company in Shenzhen. Most electric-car makers are working under the assumption that once the battery runs down, cars will recharge at home rather than on the road – limiting the cars to short distances.

The pure electric vehicles, for reserve, must carry heavy and expensive batteries—which add expense as well as weight—and must have access to high-powered recharging stations [ 1 ]. Furthermore, even the older version PHEV can recharge at a slow rate using local solar, wind, water-derived or other net zero CO 2 fuel.

If we wanted to recharge this from 110V domestic service we would need to pull 10,800,000/110 = 96,000 amps. A vehicle with a 200 mile range like the Tesla Roadster would easily be able to do the trip with one recharge. Note this value is in KW not KWHrs since it represents an amount of power delivered in a 2 second burst.
