This project will address a number of issues, ranging from the power grid itself to data transfer between drivers, vehicles, and electric fueling stations. If the battery runs out of energy, then a compact combustion engine recharges the battery as needed to boost the vehicle’s operating range to as much as 250 km (155 miles).

How does this sound: 100+ MPG in a regular vehicle? A PHEV can provide power to an entire home in the case of an outage; A fleet of PHEVs could power critical systems during emergencies. Scientist have confirmed that unlike gasoline cars, plug-ins will get cleaner as they get older -- because our power grid is getting cleaner.

The electricity for recharging has to come from somewhere, which means power plants. Depending upon where you live, power plants are often burning natural resources. The true impact of electric vehicles should consider the make-up of the power grids where these cars will be used. The transplant car companies….aren’t
