SDG&E tested the performance of two 2007-model Prius hybrids and then converted them into plug-in hybrids, using a Hymotion 5 kWh lithium-ion battery conversion kit. General Motors Corp. This rate is substantially below the 15 to 17 million annual vehicle sales rates recorded from 1995 through 2007. GM will launch the Chevrolet Volt extended range electric vehicle in 2010, expects to have 14 hybrid models in production by 2012, and will have 65% of vehicles alternative-fuel capable by 2014.

In late 2008, BYD started selling the first production PHEV in China. Weve kept the summary table below generally up-to-date for passenger PHEVs, but not for BEVs, motorcycles or larger vehicles like buses and trucks. Several dozen prototypes on 15-passenger van since 2004; now in second generation development; no production plans.
