A typical refined barrel of crude in the Gulf area yields 46% gasoline, 25% diesel or heating oil, and 6% natural gas liquids. So, production of 598,000 bpd of gasoline, 325,000 bpd of diesel, and 78,000 bpd of natural gas liquids is likely to be shut in for about three to four days, Kerr calculates.

Brazil, the largest and most populous country in South America, was importing 80% of its oil and 40% of its foreign exchange was used to pay for that imported oil. In 1975, General Ernesto Geisel, then-president of Brazil, ordered the country’s gasoline supply mixed with 10% ethanol.
