Air Products plans to construct a new 180-mile long pipeline connecting its existing Louisiana and Texas hydrogen pipeline systems, creating the world’s largest hydrogen plant and pipeline supply network. The new Gulf Coast hydrogen pipeline network is expected to be operational in mid-2012.

Air Products will increase the supply of hydrogen to Marathon Petroleum Company LP, a subsidiary of Marathon Oil Corporation (NYSE: MRO), at Marathon’s Garyville, La. In all, Air Products will increase the current level of supply by approximately 25 million standard cubic feet (MMscf) (around 60,000 kg) per day.

Air Products will supply a combined additional supply of more than 200 million standard cubic feet per day of hydrogen for Valero’s refineries in St. Charles, Louisiana and Port Arthur, Texas. Air Products has been supplying hydrogen via pipeline to Valero’s St Charles refinery since 1997 and also to Port Arthur since 1996.

Air Products, the leading global hydrogen provider, held a dedication ceremony for what is now the world’s largest hydrogen plant and pipeline supply network. Air Products had operated two hydrogen pipeline systems in Texas and Louisiana before joining them with a new 180-mile segment.

The propane fleet will replace gasoline- and diesel-fueled vehicles used largely in rural areas in Louisiana and Oklahoma with other states pending. The vehicles on these routes can travel up to 200 miles on a tank of propane. The propane autogas fuel system was supplied from CleanFuel USA.

GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado trucks for each fleet were upgraded to run on either natural gas or gasoline using the new DuraDrive DI natural gas system, supplied by Utah-based AGA Systems. The 2015 model vehicles were purchased by local Houston company NewTex Plumbing and San Antonio-based Pioneer Energy Services.

Neste, Renewable Energy Group (REG) and Solazyme will supply renewable diesel to UPS to help facilitate the company’s shift to move more than 12% of its purchased ground fuel from conventional diesel and gasoline fuel to alternative fuels by the end of 2017. White House climate pledge.
