If no one wants your car (because people think it sucks), then no one will buy it, regardless of how good the fuel economy may or may not be. Blending the MPG of SUVs and small cars understates the real consumption and rewards automakers for building gas hogs and unsafe micro cars which makes people want to buy "safe" gas hogs.
