This project started about a month ago when I became co-chair of the Oregon Electric Vehicles Association. While people can purchase neighborhood electric vehicles today for about $10K, they only have a top speed of 35 miles an hour or so, essentially glorified golf-carts.

Another notable battery car, though its producer decided to skip the Shanghai show, is a super-low-cost, two-seat mini electric car that Chinese parts producer Wonder Auto Technology Inc. are expected to begin producing jointly this summer.

Kulongoski, Oregon as the electric-car manufacturer may be eyeing the “green” city of Portland. Think Global was formerly known as Think City, a prior Ford Motor Company ( F ) acquisition and part of a now-defunct Think division at Ford. Think has established a U.S. headquarters and will begin sales in the U.S.
