The Hertz Corporation, which includes the Hertz, Dollar and Thrifty brands, has expanded of its Green Traveler Collection car rental fleet to include the 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid ( earlier post ) in select cities across the US. All of the Green Traveler cars have fuel efficiency ratings starting at 33+ highway mpg.

The XLP will be an industry-first fleet-ready solution offered as a ship-thru upfit on half-ton pickup trucks from leading OEMs, and is targeted to provide a 50% improvement in miles driven per gallon for major fleets across the United States, as well as significant reductions in CO 2 emissions. This is a key point for fleets.

The system, with a total of 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, is EPA city and highway combined rated at 20 mpg with the gasoline engine only.

Hyundai will introduce a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle to the market in 2012, according to Dr. Byungsoon Min, of Hyundai Motor Company R&D Center, presenting at the SAE 2010 Hybrid Vehicle Technologies Symposium in San Diego this week. kWh lithium polymer battery pack (5.3 Hyundai says that vehicle range is 652 miles (1,049 km).
