BAE Systems has been selected by Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL) and the Republic of Ireland’s National Transport Authority (NTA) to supply up to 600 electric power and propulsion systems for its new fleet of buses in Ireland. The selection includes an initial order for 100 systems.

It’s very similar to the infrastructure for electric cars because the idea, ultimately, for electric cars is that you also are revamping your grid to facilitate, whatchamacallit, intermittent renewable energy sources, like wind and solar, because having an electric car that runs off a coal-fired power plant is defeating the purpose, essentially.

The challenge is to find a place to charge all the vehicles entering the UK fleet. Under the new law, all new homes built in the UK will require at least one “smart” charger, which must be able to switch on during off-peak hours when demand on the UK grid is lowest.

Vehicle to Grid (V2G) is one approach being taken, where stored energy from the electric vehicles is used to power the grid during peak hours, and then the vehicles are recharged during non-peak times. They have not only become an e-Mobility service provider, but they are also transitioning 12,000 fleet vehicles to electric vehicles.

The New Zealand light vehicle fleet, including light commercial vans and trucks, makes up 80 per cent of our transport emissions. . There are 3.5 million passenger vehicles in New Zealand.

Singapore is well-positioned for the deployment of EVs due to our relative small size, urban environment, robust electrical grid and IT infrastructure.
