When you lease a car, a finance company effectively buys it from the manufacturer and leases it to you for the duration of your contract. It’s a great way to drive a brand new car without having to finance the entire cost. Nowadays, most new EVs offer a ‘real world’ range of more than 150 miles from a single charge.

Nissan is working on an electric car that it says is on track to have a 100-mile range and 26-minute charge time. For on-the-go juice ups, the idea is to exchange your dead battery for a fresh one owned by Better Place. My parents live about 180 miles away, which is well outside the range of most electric cars.

BYD , for examples, says their 60 mile range-extended vehicle can add 30 miles of range in ten minutes. I dont like the idea of leasing a battery pack, or project Better Places pay for however-so-many miles on a plan and whatnot. Install 3 miles of charging lane with about the same frequency as Rest Stops. not an issue.

The four-door sedan will deliver 40 miles on a charge; a small gasoline engine will recharge the battery as it approaches depletion, extending its range by as much as 200 miles. Ive found it facinating how car commercials changed the main MPG number they promoted before gas went over $4 a gallon as city miles. Thats right.
