GM announced that the first buyers of the Chevrolet Volt electric vehicle with extended-range capability will be eligible for one of 4,400 free home charging stations. To encourage consumer purchases of electric vehicles, federal grants and other funds have been awarded to install more than 15,000 home charge stations.

An empty Volt pack will take 10 hours to fully recharge; an empty LEAF about 20 hours. Recharge time will usually be much less than what it takes to go from empty to full. Dozens of manufacturers seem to be selling equipment at a range of prices, but few actually are available now. Until the next morning or just an hour or two?
