The demonstration fleet will be monitored closely to determine the amount of real-world range achievable by a vehicle of its size. On specific test schedules conducted by LG Chem, the demonstration vehicles may achieve a range of up to 160 km (100 miles). GM currently markets the vehicle under the local brand in South Korea.

GM’s electrified vehicles today include the extended-range electric Chevrolet Volt, Spark EV and Buick LaCrosse, Regal, Chevrolet Malibu and Impala with eAssist. Many of the most recent energy-savings initiatives have been within GM International Operations (GMIO) in China, India, Kenya, Russia, South Africa, South Korea and Thailand.

Ford has announced that it has signed a joint venture deal with South Korea’s SK Innovation in a monumental partnership that will manufacture EV battery cells in the United States. Ford’s F-150 Lightning will start from $39,974 to $90,474 and will offer up to 300 miles of range with its extended range battery.

Revenge of the Electric Car

The coveted Chevy Volt battery contract appears to be going to a unit of South Korea’s biggest battery maker. The Volt, which GM prefers to call an extended-range electric vehicle, doesn’t use its internal combustion engine for propulsion, relying entirely on an electric drive system. URL: [link].
