After a large increase of new vehicle registrations in Europe in December 2019, volumes for January decreased, marking another month of transition for the complex new car market. A total of 1,138,057 new passenger cars were registered in Europe in January 2020, representing a decline of 7.6% SUVs continue to gain traction.

Electrified car registrations pass 100K units in Europe for 1st time in March; total reg down 3.6%; Model 3 top EV

Last month, 19 of the 27 markets posted negative results—including the top 10 largest markets in Europe. March marked the first time that registrations of electrified cars (BEV, PHEV, HEV) exceeded the 100,000 units mark, with a total of 125,400. The biggest drops were posted by Mercedes, Renault, Peugeot, Ford and Land Rover.

Demand for battery electric vehicles in Europe doubles in July; growth driven by Tesla and Renault

Registrations of BEV, PHEV, HEV and other electric vehicles totalled 96,600 units in July—as demand increased by 29% from July 2018. Consumers bought 505,900 SUVs in July, as demand increased by 8.7%. Volkswagen Group led the SUV segment, as the German maker recorded 25.7% drop on the same period last year.
