EIA Estimates 2.1% Growth in Fossil Fuel CO2 Emissions in US in 2010; Still Below 1999-2008 Levels

The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates in the April 2010 release of its Short-Term Energy and Summer Fuels Outlook that CO 2 emissions from fossil fuels, which declined by 6.6% However, even with increases in 2010 and 2011, projected CO 2 emissions in 2011 are lower than annual emissions from 1999 through 2008.

GE’s Evolution Series Locomotive Delivers 6% Fuel Advantage Over Competitor

The results of an independent head-to-head fuel test between GE’s Evolution ES44AC and EMD’s SD70ACe Tier 2 emissions-compliant locomotives found that GE’s locomotives are more than 6% more fuel-efficient compared to their EMD counterparts. Moving freight by rail compared to trucks reduces fuel use, emissions and highway congestion.
