Toshiba Corporation announced that it is working with Mitsubishi Motors Corporation to bring its SCiB battery ( earlier post ) to electric vehicles (EVs). The SCiB is Toshiba’s rechargeable lithium-ion battery that combines high levels of safety with a long life and rapid recharging.

In spring 2011, the plant will start to produce SCiB cells and modules for application in battery-powered electric vehicles (EV). Toshiba anticipates strong demand for SCiB, primarily for application in battery-powered electric vehicles (EV), in a range extending from motorcycles to forklifts through to cars.

And, you have to recognize that they pull a hell of a lot of power through the local grid: there will come a time when we will see utility transformers popping from all the current being drawn (imagine just a few dozen EVs fast-charging simultaneously, on 480V at 500A: wow).
