At 48 volts, a VTES electric supercharger will transform 7kW of battery power into a highly boosted charge of air for downsized gasoline and diesel engines. There will be no torque deficit or other tradeoffs from essential engine downsizing and higher gearing, which now dominates the development of internal combustion engines.

The relocated and re-engineered turbo means throttle response time and low-end torque have improved. The lead-carbon battery was chosen due to its excellent power-to-cost ratio, rapid charging capability and high levels of durability. Up to 15 kg of gas can be stored in the tank at 200 bar pressure.

Aeristech’s 48v eSupercharger has already been demonstrated by MAHLE Powertrain UK in a D-segment appraisal vehicle using its downsized turbocharged 1.2 At low speed (1250 rpm), the eSupercharger achieved 28.6 The addition of the eSupercharger re-instated the low-speed torque.
