The catalytic converter that keeps the ICE from being a gross polluter in conventional cars and hybrids however, isn't kept warm by the continual embrace of an ever-churning engine in a hybrid with all-electric range. Third-party and DIY converters can't muck with every system on a car. But you have to want to solve the problem.

At these prices, people are buying the "environmental feature" -- they want to be among the first owners of the worlds cleanest extended-range vehicles. Today youd do it to be one of the first to drive the worlds cleanest extended range vehicle; in the future, youll do it because its an obvious and affordable win!

We always seem to hear that one coming from a mile away. Nonetheless, I do agree that it wastes of energy, reduces range and should NOT be mandatory. Encased in metal and painted black, the battery looked much smaller than a Roadster pack and is said to be able to power the fortwo up to 100 miles. An (expected) high price tag. In California, 20% of our electricity comes from zero CO2 renewables (sun, wind, geothermal), another 20% from zero CO2 hydro, and only 20.1% ↓ ↑ report 19 Stevo 10:30PM (4/24/2009) Chris you make a very fair point but thats only in california rite.
