This has nothing to do with real economics and more to do with marketing, which is the black art of herding people into paying more for less. and 49 mpg. Merc wants the electric smart to perform badly, to have a short range and little power, so that it dosent eat up other products in the lineup.

For now, the Circuit has all sorts of EV appeal, but itll be up to groups that Chrysler cant control - the Presidential auto task force, the higher-end customer market, etc. - This one fact is arguably more important than how the car acts on the road. to decide if we ever get to see these promises fulfilled.

The head of Chryslers ENVI division, Lou Rhodes, told AutoblogGreen this morning that Chrysler is marketing this battery-only version of the van to commercial fleet customers who typically have shorter range requirements.
