The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) has selected BAE Systems to supply electric power and propulsion systems for its transit buses. BAE’s series hybrid system features no mechanical link between the diesel engine and the axle. All power comes from the electric motor. Initial SF Muni Green Zone routes.

The zero-emission buses will replace five diesel buses that are at the end of their useful life. The Transit Authority of River City (TARC), the transit agency for Louisville, Kentucky, and southern Indiana, will receive funding to deploy five Proterra battery-electric buses and a fast charging station. 54,469,249.

President Barack Obama, along with Vice President Joe Biden and Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, released a strategic vision and plan for a high-speed passenger rail (HSR) system in the US. Additional funding for long-term planning and development is expected from legislation authorizing federal surface transportation programs.
