Volkswagen CrossBlue Coupé plug-in makes its European debut; showcasing the MQB

Volkswagen brought the new CrossBlue Coupé plug-in hybrid sporty mid-size SUV show car, introduced in April at Auto Shanghai 2013 ( earlier post ), to a media event in Berlin for its European premiere. The Volkswagen brand is responsible for the MQB; the Audi brand for the MLB; and Porsche for the MSB (which is sporty). Earlier post.

Volkswagen staged two world premieres at the Detroit Auto Show: the new Jetta gasoline-electric Hybrid and the E-Bugster battery-electric concept derived from the Beetle. As in the Touareg Hybrid SUV, the Jetta Hybrid features a clutch that decouples the gasoline engine from the drivetrain when in pure electric or coasting modes.

As far as quick, Id give my left nut to own a Wrightspeed EV, so I could (quietly) blow the doors off Porsches and Ferraris. What I do want is an SUV, cross- over or truck that will meet all of my needs and at the same time be fuel efficient or flex fuel to reduce emissions and dependence on foreign oil. The transplant car companies….aren’t
