As a start, Energy Secretary Steven Chu should organize an industry council - like the World War II Production Board - and run it as if we were under wartime pressure. But the critical limitation is going to be battery production.

GM has announced plans for public sales in 2010, and almost every carmaker now says it will sell PHEVs or highway-speed battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sometime after 2010. In late 2008, BYD started selling the first production PHEV in China. 1,000 pre-orders for small production runs in 2009 and 2010starting 4th quarter 2009.

The car came straight to Omaha from the Detroit auto show. BYDs breakthrough all-electric E6, photographed at this years Detroit auto show. MidAmericans David Sokol, BYDs Wang, and company advisor Li Lu flew with Sokol from Detroit to Omaha so that Wang could meet Buffett in person.
