Scout Motors, the recently formed independent company backed by Volkswagen Group ( earlier post , is establishing its first manufacturing plant near Columbia, South Carolina, where it will build electric next-generation trucks and rugged SUVs harkening back to the iconic Scout vehicles produced from 1960 to 1980.

Polestar’s first electric SUV, the Polestar 3 , is expected to begin rolling out in the US in the next few months. Ahead of its debut, Polestar is already offering a massive $7,500 purchase incentive on the new electric SUV. Polestar calls the new EV an “SUV for the electric age.” Both are powered by dual electric motors.

The automaker recently announced a new Innovation Center in Michigan, where it will house design, engineering, and research efforts for its upcoming EV lineup. The facility will be located in Novi, around 30 miles from Detroit. Magna already handles Fisker Ocean production, making it a somewhat natural choice as a partner for Scout.
