The US Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has published a report summarizing interviews with participants in the hydrogen-powered buses trials underway in more than 20 cities around the world from 2002 to 2007. A few were taking a wait-and-watch stance, looking for reduced cost and improved performance and reliability.

Despite this, a 2003 EPRI study , assuming only $2/gallon gas , zero buying incentives, and a PHEV premium of $3-$5,000 more than standard hybrids, shows that the total lifetime cost of ownership for a PHEV will be lower than that of any other vehicle type -- so the payback will be there. How do fuel cell cars fit into the picture?

General Motors Chevy Volt series PHEV, which it calls "extended range electric vehicle" (EREV), part of "E-Flex" multi-fuel platform. Continues promotion and development of hydrogen as long-term strategy. Company says its focusing on gasoline and hydrogen. Shifted earlier focus to all-electric Focus in 2011 with Magna.
