Used Priuses, especially the Generation 2 that were made from 2004 to 2009 are becoming a bargain to buy, especially for the MPG and features you get in return. They knew about hybrids and after a couple of times riding in our Prius, they decided to pull the trigger on two 2006s with 180k km (112k miles). How did it all start?

The EPA rated the Santa Cruz’ fuel economy at 19 mpg city/27 highway/22 combined. 4-cylinder that gets 21 mpg city/26 highway/23 combined with front-wheel drive, and 21/27/23 mpg with AWD. Offering the Santa Cruz as a hybrid would allow it to equal the Ford Maverick compact pickup for fuel efficiency.

For even more space, the second row folds flat producing plenty of room for a run to the DIY store or maybe some antiquing. The EPA rates the CX-9 AWD at 20 mpg city/26 highway/23 combined. Clean Fleet Report spent a week in the 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid XL, powered by a 2.5-Liter Fuel Economy King in a Not-So-Small Pickup. A smaller, but not small pickup.

Ford not only brought back its compact pickup, which some thought was a gamble, but the Maverick comes standard with a hybrid engine. As far as Maverick buyers, most of whom will be buying their first pickup, they will unknowingly become hybrid ambassadors. The EPA has rated fuel economy at 23 mpg city/30 highway/26 combined.
