REV, a Vancouver, Canada company that converts Ford fleet vehicles into highway capable battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles ( earlier post ), has become the first Hymotion plug-in conversion kit dealer in Canada. It is now offering the Hymotion L5 plug-in conversion system for Toyota Prius owners in BC.

ARB could spend a year in conversation with stakeholders to figure out regs and credits for new OEM plug-in hybrid cars. Lately Goldman has been driving one around DC, meeting with policy makers and pushing for consumer incentives for hybrid conversions. However, there are innumerable ways to do it.

The conversion can double or even triple fuel economy, thereby severely limiting carbon dioxide emissions. But the new rules could make it virtually impossible for current Prius owners to transform their cars into super-efficient vehicles that get up to 150 mpg. mpg on what was mostly a freeway excursion.
