The Polk County, Oregon, Sheriff’s Office is running 10 patrol cars converted to propane autogas, including seven Ford Crown Vics, two Chevy Tahoes and one Ford F-350 pickup truck; the office expects to save more than $20,000 every year by using the alternative fuel.

As a new driver, learning on the roads of Kansas City, I pass by Suburbans and Tahoes on a daily basis. I have stuck by that promise, and am now the proud owner of a newly converted 2005 Hyundai Tucson electric vehicle. The Suburbans of my middle American town are going to have to get used to me rolling by in my converted electric car.
