Chrysler calls it a “multipurpose vehicle,” but we will stick with modern minivan. The EPA rates fuel economy, when using the hybrid gasoline-only engine at 30 miles per gallon. The only minivan with a plug. The battery recharge and electric mile range are metered instantly by dash gauges. An engine for the long haul.

When Clean Fleet Report first reviewed the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid in 2017, it was the only electrified minivan on the market. But the landscape has changed since 2017 as the 2021 Toyota Sienna minivan is now a hybrid. Ready to ride.

That’s not surprising—the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, the company’s only previous plug-in hybrid, is a well-executed PHEV with an EPA-rated 32 miles of usable electric range that retains all the virtues of the Pacifica minivan. It was all-new for the 2018 model year, and was engineered from the start to accommodate 2021’s PHEV version.

The company also announced in June that it will build electric family sized minivans, SUVs and fleet vans with DOE funding (see article ) and it has formed a partnership with Daimler to provide powertrain components for the electric Smart car. Of all the ‘upstart’ green car companies, Tesla is the closest to breaking out into the mainstream.

Up to halfway through Morocco, I could travel by train, then mainly buses and minivans. Two trains a day connect Paris with the Catalan capital. Ideally, I would have liked to continue to Madrid on the same day, but there’s no late connection. My first stop was Terjit, and I took another minivan.
