Toyota “hydrogen headquarters” will develop US fuel-cell products

For the Hydrogen HQ, Toyota has started building a flexible microgrid that will incorporate a 230-kw solar system, a 1-megawatt proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel-cell generator, a 325-kw solid oxide fuel-cell system, and a 500-kwh battery storage system. That kit and the fuel-cell modules themselves are coming from Toyota’s Kentucky plant.

So Nikola created its HYLA concept, which allows it to roll out temporary refueling stations in targeted areas under more simplistic permitting and construction schemes, with the potential to build these stations into a larger permanent construction later on. But all of that is a long way off.

Honda has created a proof-of-concept Class 8 hydrogen fuel cell truck in the U.S., while its rival Toyota has demonstrated the 300-mile range truck in a joint project with Kenworth. That comparas to the 270 AER of the CR-V e:FCEV.
