The electric powertrain and the high-performance battery with 400 volts are AMG-exclusive, in-house developments. For comparison, conventional batteries without direct cooling of the cells achieve about half this figure. The basis for the high performance of the AMG 400-volt battery is its innovative direct cooling system.

Plug-in hybrids need different rules to conventional vehicles because they run on both petrol and electricity. Earlier this year there was controversy when General Motors declared that its Chevrolet Volt would attain 230mpg in the city cycle given single charges per day.
