In Singapore, where nuTonomy has strong governmental support, the round included participation from EDBI, the dedicated corporate investment arm of the Singapore Economic Development Board. The funding included significant participation from prior investors Fontinalis Partners and Signal Ventures.

The expansion of Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD continues in earnest after the company signed a memorandum of understanding with SMRT Corporation in Singapore. The two will now enter discussions about the possibility of establishing a joint venture to distribute BYD’s eBUSes and e6 taxis.

The NV200 was recently chosen as the next generation New York taxi ( earlier post ), with the prospects for an electric version beginning in 2017. Later, similar proving tests will be carried out both in Japan and Europe, where similar evaluations will be carried out with other companies. Nissan Motor Co., Japan Post Service Co.

SMRT Corporation Ltd. SMRT became the first public transport provider in Singapore and South East Asia to purchase Euro V compliant buses in May 2008 and now has more than 140 Euro V buses on the roads. The BYD eBUS-12 and the e6 taxis both can travel up to 300 km (186 miles) with a single electric charge.
