Most of the eVTOLs being designed or flown now are intended to be flown by a pilot on board, at least for the first several years of commercial operation. As the helicopter was preparing to take off from Fort Worth for the first flight, at around 2 p.m. So we, and others, are figuring out how such flights will be accomplished.

Two hours before a flight, the system reviews weather conditions, any airspace that will be closed, and all commercial and private flight plans registered with the Federal Aviation Administration, to suggest the most efficient route. The airline estimates it saves 17 hours a day in taxi time and 1.4 million gallons of jet fuel a year.

Team partners will purchase a total of 191 commercially available light- to heavy-duty alternative-fuel and advanced-technology vehicles. Vehicles to be deployed include 163 CNG, the vast majority for high mileage taxis and 18 heavy-duty LNG refuse trucks. The project also includes construction of a B20 station.
