The grants will go to projects in 17 states. The project also includes a proprietary process to convert waste biomass into carbon dioxide and hydrogen to feed the bioreactor, allowing butanol production from waste feedstocks. Coal-fired power plants currently generate approximately 50% of the electricity in the United States.
