Lutz says the Volt is no "pr stunt," that they intend to have a working model by the end of the year, and are making a diesel version with a European body to be shown in Frankfort. Or is lithium the new hydrogen? Asked why not Nickel Metal Hydride batteries in the Volt, at least to start, he says "NiMH just doesn't do it."

Blue Concept PHEV Van with diesel or hydrogen fuel cells and rooftop photovoltaic. Hyundai Partnering with Korean battery companies for hybrids. No announced plans. Expects production around 2014.

It is reminiscent of the early 1900’s, when steam, electric, diesel, biomass, and gasoline power options competed on a level playing field for consumers’ attention. Today we could be using lead-acid EVs, lead-carbon-acid EVs, or nickel metal hydride or lithium-ion hybrids. We have oil!
