Dubai is known as one of the most forward-thinking cities in the world, so it’s no surprise that it has been quick to embrace the green car movement. Now, the Sharjah Public Transport Corporation has taken the decision to introduce gas powered taxi and bus fleets.

Twenty five projects have been selected for a collective cash injection of $300million from the US Department of Energy (DOE) under the Clean Cities Programme. The projects will put more than 9,000 alternative fuel and energy efficient vehicles on the road, while establishing 542 refuelling locations across the US.

The cars’ first placement is with Newcastle City Council, where they are supplementing its vehicle fleet and being allocated to staff making trips around the city, as an alternative to using fleet cars with conventional petrol or diesel engines.
