Li Auto has officially launched its first-ever battery EV, a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) called the Mega. Priced at over RMB 560,000 ($77,800), Li Auto expects the luxury minivan to be a top seller in its segment, contributing to its target of 800,000 vehicles sold this year. Not bad for a glorified minivan. Dope or nope?

Volvo reached its highest-ever share of electrified vehicles as its new fully electric EX30 boosted EV sales in February. Although overall sales slid 2% last month, Volvo’s fully electric vehicle sales were up 14%, reaching a new record share. The US and China both saw EV sales fall as Volvo works to launch new models in the regions.

With “above-expected order rates,” Volvo will build the EX30 at its Ghent, Belgium plant (in addition to China) to meet the growing demand in Europe for low-cost EVS. Volvo’s EV sales were up 70% last year, with over 113K purely electric vehicles sold. In China, Volvo is also launching its first electric minivan , the EM90.

GM has announced plans for public sales in 2010, and almost every carmaker now says it will sell PHEVs or highway-speed battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sometime after 2010. In late 2008, BYD started selling the first production PHEV in China. 1,000 pre-orders for small production runs in 2009 and 2010starting 4th quarter 2009.
