Late last year, Volvo launched its very first all-electric model in North America. It’s called the XC40 Recharge, and the earliest versions aren’t cheap, priced from about $55,000 including delivery. The Polestar 2’s design language has some unique elements and some Volvo echoes. Until now, it’s had no plug-in option.

Due in the second quarter, the BYD Seal U is available globally as a plug-in hybrid EV (PHEV) and a fully electric model. Sharing its basic layout and compact SUV body with the petrol-powered models that hit the market in 2023, the Chery Omoda 5 EV gets a unique front-end design that appears to improve aerodynamics.

The SUV’s reveal follows Volvo Car Australia’s announcement last week saying the brand will sell only fully electric cars here from 2026. They’re not going to be cheap. Design-wise there are Thor’s hammer pixel LED headlights and 22-inch wheels ride on air suspension as standard.
