Duke Energy and ITOCHU’s program builds upon their involvement in Project Plug-IN, a large-scale public/private EV initiative based in Indianapolis. According to some auto industry estimates, electric vehicle (EV) batteries that can no longer charge to approximately 80% of their original capacity may be candidates for replacement.

The project will include 27 alternative fuel stations (16 CNG, 7 B20/E85, one B20, three Electric Charging) and deploy 373 alternative fuel and advance technology vehicles (235 CNG, 58 HEV, two LPG, two EV). Metropolitan Energy Information Center’s Midwest Region Alternative Fuels Project. Total DOE award: $14,999,658.

Each has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with Chrysler to equip post offices in strategically selected regions of the United States with a charging infrastructure for the envisioned program. Thats such a pretty metallic blue; I would love to see these postal vehicles around my neighborhood. Oh, and the whole electric thing is good too.
