Competing in the premium midsize SUV category, the 2021 Cadillac XT5 is right in the middle of stiff competition, including models from Acura, Audi, BMW, Genesis, Infiniti, Land Rover, Lexus, Lincoln, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Tesla and Volvo. Some of these come as hybrids, plug-in hybrids or full electrics, upping the ante even more.

The mpg ratings are for city/highway/combined. RWD we drove 225 miles through Southern California, averaging 24 mpg. The high-end interior, sharp exterior design, deft handling, 30+ mpg from the base engine with rear-wheel drive, standard driver safety systems and an outstanding warranty make it a great value. In 240 miles driving around Southern California we averaged 23 mpg, but in a 100-mile run with the adaptive cruise control set at 65 mph, we averaged 31.2 mpg, exceeding the EPA figure. It is rare when we post a review of a car that is only available in one of the 50 United States, but such is the case with the 2022 Toyota Mirai hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV), which is only sold in California. The 2nd gen Mirai mimics a Lexus look. The Most Luxurious Toyota.

The EPA estimates the G80’s fuel economy to be 17 mpg city/26 highway/20 combined. If fuel economy is a pacing item, then getting 32 mpg with the smaller displacement probably is worth foregoing the performance benefits of the larger engine. The dash had real carbon fiber trim along with a minimal use of brushed aluminum.
