The plug-in hybrid version of its new Tonale small SUV has gone on sale in Australia, priced from a chunky $77,500 before on-roads for the Alfa Romeo Tonale PHEV. The price puts the Alfa Romeo Tonale PHEV Q4 in line with full electric small SUV rivals such as the Volvo XC40 Pure Electric ($73,990) or Mercedes-Benz EQA 250 ($81,700).

Volvo will also benefit from the sale of aftermarket Polestar performance optimization kits for existing Volvos. The Polestar brand is already firmly established internationally through the sale of Polestar-branded Volvos. No financial details of the deal have been disclosed.

Jerry is the owner of a PHEV Prius with Plug in Supply conversion kit, plus solar panels on the roof installed by Bob Bruninga, Naval Academy engineering professor. It also has floor brakes and accelerator.
