The newly-opened station at JFK international airport is the result of a partnership between Shell, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the US Department of Energy and General Motors. Shell buys the majority of hydrogen for its filling stations from third parties. Shell is conducting research into lower CO 2 hydrogen.

The station is the first of a cluster to come from fuel giant Shell, which formed a partnership with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the US Department of Energy and General Motors to open the forecourt at JFK International Airport. The three filling stations in New York will be within around 30 miles of each other.
