BMW Group and Croatia-headquartered electrification technology developer Rimac Technology have announced a long-term partnership to co-develop and co-produce high-voltage battery technology for selected BEVs. The two companies say their respective strengths will complement each other.

High volume ESS production shall begin in 2025 at the Rimac Campus in Croatia, scaling to more than 10GWh of annual production. Rimac Technology is the Rimac Group entity that designs, engineers and produces high-performance EV components and systems to help the industry build hybrid and electric vehicles.

Rimac said the partnership will require them to establish sophisticated battery production lines at its campus near Zagreb, Croatia. BMW currently gets its batteries from five sites globally, and it plans to build next-gen EV batteries in South Carolina, Mexico, Hungary, and China.
