Cadillac unveiled the anticipated 2014 ELR extended range electric (EREV) vehicle (based on the Converj concept, earlier post ) at the North American International Auto Show. Mountain mode automatically adjusts the system to provide needed power in mountainous environments when vehicle performance could otherwise be compromised.

On World Environment Day, General Motors mapped out its electrification path in China. The Cadillac CT6 Plug-In, Buick VELITE 5 extended-range electric vehicle and Baojun E100 electric vehicle are among the models that have already been launched in the domestic market.

Its two mainstream brands, Buick and Chevrolet, will account for nearly half. Buick will introduce about 12 new and upgraded products. From Chevrolet will come 15 new models and upgrades, which will range from affordable small cars to midsize sedans. A drivable version will be introduced following Auto Shanghai 2011.

The morning session started out with an hour long press conference, the highlight being the unveiling of the Volt’s 230 mpg preliminary EPA city fuel economy finding ( earlier post ), as well as a tour showing selected elements from the studios of the four GM North American brands: Chevrolet, GMC, Buick and Cadillac. The head of Chryslers ENVI division, Lou Rhodes, told AutoblogGreen this morning that Chrysler is marketing this battery-only version of the van to commercial fleet customers who typically have shorter range requirements. The extended-range version will be focused on retail customers.
